Hydration should fit your day. If plain water has never been your favorite drink, a different temperature, a convenient pouch, or a more enjoyable routine can be a useful place to start. At Revitalize ALFA MD, we want you to understand the water you choose as well as enjoy drinking it.
What is hydrogen water?
Hydrogen water contains dissolved molecular hydrogen gas, written H₂. That gas is separate from the hydrogen chemically bound within ordinary H₂O. The water remains water; dissolved H₂ is an additional component. [source]
What does electrolyzed-reduced water mean?
Electrolyzed-reduced water, or ERW, is produced using electrolysis. At one electrode, the process can produce dissolved hydrogen and a more alkaline pH. “Alkaline” describes pH; “hydrogen-rich” describes dissolved H₂. These describe different properties. A pH or oxidation-reduction potential reading alone cannot reliably tell you the hydrogen concentration. [source]
Does it hydrate you faster?
A 2016 randomized study of 100 healthy adults compared a commercial electrolyzed alkaline water with purified water after exercise-induced dehydration. One blood-viscosity measure improved more with the alkaline water: 6.30% versus 3.36%. Other measures, including plasma osmolality, body mass and bioimpedance, did not differ significantly. The analysis of hydration rates also found no statistically significant difference. [source]
That is an interesting research signal, but it does not establish that ALFA Water is absorbed faster or hydrates everyone better than regular water. The trial studied another brand and was industry funded. It also did not study people who dislike drinking water. We distinguish those findings from product-specific proof.
Why are researchers interested in hydrogen?
A separate four-week trial involving 38 adults examined hydrogen water and biological markers. It reported changes in some cellular and inflammatory measures, while several overall oxidative-stress markers did not differ between groups. This early work helps explain the scientific interest; it does not demonstrate a guaranteed everyday health outcome or faster hydration. [source]
Make your water break more inviting
- Compare chilled and room-temperature water and choose what you enjoy.
- Try smaller, regular sips instead of making each drink feel like a large task.
- Keep water where you will notice it during your usual routine.
- Pair a water break with a meal or another familiar daily cue.
- For variety, consider unsweetened tea or water with a little lemon.
Water and other beverages contribute to fluid intake, and needs vary with the person, activity and conditions. The CDC recommends simple steps such as keeping water available and serving it with meals. Follow any individualized fluid guidance from your clinician. [source]
